About Zulu Tattoo

Welcome to the Tribe...

Zulu Tattoo is a place where tolerance and creativity thrive. I am very proud of my clientele which widely ranges in ethnicity, religious affiliation, gender and many more sects of society.

I am fortunate to have been exposed to, and learned from, such a vast array of people from all regions of our planet. My concern is to provide you with a custom design fitted for you alone.

I encourage clients to get involved in the creation of their sacred markings as we work together to bring that which is within you to the surface.

This Manifesto resonates in the heart of every artist at Zulu Tattoo. We look forward to having the pleasure and the honor of being chosen to give you your sacred mark.

    Prep/Aftercare

If you are to be tattooed in an area where you have a lot of body hair, shave 24 hours before.

Try to get a good restful sleep on the night prior to your appointment. We don't want you exhausted. Don't party too much the night before. A few beers or a glass of wine is fine, but keep it to a minimum.

Eat something an hour or two before your appointment time. Don't come with a completely empty stomach. Protein is good. Don't eat a lot of sugars and avoid smoked or heavily processed meats like hot dogs, spam or sausage. Sodium nitrates and sugars can make you swell more. Eat something relatively healthy.

Bring some fruit juice and a couple of apples, bananas, power bar or something to eat just in case you get hungry during your tattoo session. Your body burns a lot of fuel during a tattoo and you may want to replenish yourself.

Wear something appropriate. Remember what part of your body we need access to. Darker colors are better. Don't wear something brand new and white, as we are likely to get some ink on it. Avoid tight clothing.

    AFTERCARE:

1.) Remove and discard the bandage 1 hour after receiving your tattoo. You will not re-bandage during the entire healing process.
2.) Wash with warm water and mild soap, do not use soaps containing heavy dyes or perfumes.Gently wash with lathered hands...do not use wash rag, loofah or anything abrasive.
3.) Towel dry by patting, do not rub across tattoo with towel.100% natural Zulu Tattoo Healing Ointment is available at our studio.
4.) Apply a very thin coat of healing ointment to your tattoo, do not apply a thick layer of ointment...your skin can only breath through a thin layer.

Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 twice daily (morning and night) for 3 weeks.

The first night of rest, your tattoo may stick to and stain your sheets, so don't sleep on your best sheets. You may wish to sleep in a t shirt, or pajama's to avoid contact with your sheets. If you choose this option, you may wake to find your tattoo stuck to your clothing. If this is the case, do not rip the clothing from the tattoo...soak the area with warm water and then remove your clothing. Your tattoo will weep a bit of excess ink the first day or so, this is normal...just keep it clean and moisturized. Your tattoo will form a light flaky scab in a few days, this is the normal exfoliation process. Do not pick at or scratch the tattoo while it is healing, let the flaky skin exfoliate naturally, most of this will happen when you shower. After the exfoliation your tattoo may appear to have a light milky haze to it, this is normal and will pass during the healing process. Avoid Soaking the tattoo for 4 weeks...No baths, jacuzzis, saunas, swimming pools, oceans or lakes for 4 weeks...showers are fine...no long periods of submersion in water.

Most Importantly KEEP IT CLEAN!!! If your tattoo is on your wrist...please don't do your gardening until it's healed!!! Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the healing process.

After your tattoo is healed you should use a high SPF sun block when exposed to the sun for long periods of time to avoid fading over the years to come.

Contact us if you have any questions during your healing process.

    Welcome to our blog…..

    March 14th, 2012 by

We would like to welcome you to our new blog!  We will be posting all kinds of fun and interesting topics here about tattoos, our clients, our artists, our events and more!  Our goal is to create a community and tribe built around Zulu Tattoo and all that we do here. Zulu started Zulu Tattoo 20 years ago with the hopes of filling a niche in the tattoo world.  His philosophy of “not just putting a tattoo on you, but bringing that which is within to the surface” has been his motto from the very start.  We are so fortunate to attract an amazingly compassionate, artistic, eclectic, professional, and interesting clientele.  The Zulu Tattoo Tribe has grown into an amazing community.

This community is what spawned the idea of creating the Zulu Lounge.  It is our quarterly event where we raise money for different charities.  We strongly believe in giving back to our community!  If you want to learn more about our event, you can go to www.zululoungela.com.

We have a Zulu Lounge coming up on Thursday, March 29, 2012!  Please join us!  For tickets and more info go to www.zululoungela.com.

We look forward to seeing more of you here!
